Fascia Stretch Therapy (FST) is a form of assisted stretching designed to improve nerve mobility and muscle and fascia flexibility. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, and joints, providing support and structure to the body. FST targets fascial lines using gentle movements and stretches to enhance flexibility, reduce pain, and improve overall functional movement. It can aid in improving posture, relieving muscle tightness, and boosting athletic performance by addressing the entire connective tissue network, not just muscles.
Fascia Stretch Therapy (FST) is a series of gentle, assisted stretches performed by a therapist, often with the client lying on a massage table. These stretches aim to improve flexibility, reduce pain, and enhance overall functional movement by targeting the entire fascial network. The therapist may use traction, oscillation, and deep breathing techniques to relax the body and maximize the effectiveness of the stretches.
FST also involves stretching the joint capsules to improve joint range of motion and reduce stiffness. Each session is tailored to the client’s specific requirements, gradually improving flexibility and addressing areas of tightness or discomfort. By enhancing the mobility of the fascia and muscles, FST aims to enhance posture, alleviate muscle tightness, and improve athletic performance.

A typical 60 minute – Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) session includes the following steps:
Unfortunately, FST is not currently covered by insurance. However, some companies offer a fitness allowance that can be used for these sessions.
Activewear that allows unrestricted movement is recommended. This can include shorts, non-slip yoga pants, a loose T-shirt, or a sports bra. Please remove any jewelry before the session.
Each FST session is great for reducing and managing pain and can lead to long-lasting postural and functional improvements with consistent weekly or biweekly use. Your therapist can advise on the best option for your mobility goals. Typically, clients aiming to improve mobility may start with one or two weekly sessions to encourage the body to maintain changes. Dean also offers coaching during the sessions to help clients better understand how to maintain the improvements made.
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) can benefit various conditions by improving fascia mobility and body function. It effectively alleviates chronic pain, relieves muscle tightness, enhances athletic performance, improves joint stiffness, aids post-surgical recovery, corrects posture-related issues, and provides relaxation and stress relief.
The Stretch to Win Institute is a great resource for learning more about FST. You can visit www.stretchtowin.com for more details. Also, feel free to ask your therapist about this service. Dean has 15 years of experience helping his clients improve their mobility.
